A person who taught me something important is my father. He taught me the importance of keeping a promise and taking responsibility for what I say I will do.

He did not teach this through a formal conversation. Instead, he set an example through his behaviour. When I was younger, I noticed that if he promised to help someone or finish something by a certain time, he usually did it, even when it was inconvenient.

I understood the lesson more clearly when I was about fourteen. I had promised a classmate that I would bring part of our group project to school, but I forgot it at home. My first reaction was to make an excuse. My father told me it would be better to admit the mistake and solve the problem. I called my classmate, apologised and arranged to send the file electronically. The situation was small, but I realised that people trust you more when you are honest and take responsibility.

That lesson has become a personal value for me. Keeping a promise helps build trust in friendships, study and work. I still make mistakes, but I try not to hide them or blame someone else.

A mathematical skill I learned in primary school was mental maths, especially using multiplication tables to work out simple calculations quickly without a calculator.

I started learning it in around Grade 3. My maths teacher first made us memorise the basic multiplication tables, but she also showed us patterns so that we did not depend only on memory. For example, she explained how doubling a number could help with multiplication by four or eight.

We used to practise for five minutes at the beginning of many lessons. The teacher would call out a short calculation, and we had to write the answer on a small board. At first, I was one of the slower students because I tried to calculate everything from the beginning. After practising regularly, I started recognising patterns and developed better number sense. I remember feeling very pleased when I could answer several questions before the timer finished.

The skill still comes in handy today. I use mental maths when checking prices, sharing a bill or estimating simple costs. It is a basic skill, but it saves time and helps me notice when a calculation looks wrong.

A useful skill I learned as a teenager was touch typing, which means typing without looking at the keyboard all the time. I started learning it when I was about fifteen.

At that age, I was doing more school assignments on a computer, and I realised that typing slowly was wasting a lot of time. A friend showed me a free online tutorial that taught the correct position for each finger. I decided to practise because I wanted to finish written work faster.

In the beginning, I was actually slower because I kept forcing myself not to look down. I practised for around fifteen minutes a day using short exercises and simple typing games. The website showed both speed and accuracy, so I could track my progress. After a few weeks, my fingers started moving more automatically. I remember the first time I typed an entire paragraph without looking at the keys; it felt surprisingly satisfying. I kept practising consistently for several months and gradually built speed.

I learned the skill mainly to save time, but it has remained useful ever since. It helps with study, emails and everyday computer work. It is not an impressive skill, but I use it almost every day.

A subject I would like to learn in the future is psychology. I am not planning to become a psychologist, but I think the subject could broaden my understanding of people and everyday behaviour.

I became interested in psychology through podcasts and short articles about habits, motivation and decision-making. I noticed that many ideas could be connected to study, work and relationships. That made me curious about the subject in a more organised way.

I would probably begin with an introductory book and a short online course. I would want to learn basic topics such as memory, stress, personality and human behaviour before moving to anything more technical. I would also take notes and try to apply the knowledge to simple situations, for example understanding why people delay difficult tasks or why certain habits are hard to change. If I enjoyed the course, I might later join a class where students can discuss real examples with a teacher.

Psychology interests me because it deals with questions that appear in ordinary life. It seems practical, but it also requires careful thinking because human behaviour is rarely simple. I think studying it would make me more observant and possibly more understanding of other people.

A skill that takes a long time to learn is speaking a foreign language fluently. In my case, I would use English as the clearest example because I have studied it for years and still find new areas to improve.

You can learn a language at school, in a language centre, online or through daily contact with speakers. I think the best method is to combine several sources. Formal lessons can explain grammar, while regular exposure through videos, reading and conversation helps the language become more natural.

From my own experience, progress is not always easy to notice. At first, I focused mainly on grammar and vocabulary. Later, I realised that speaking fluently also requires fast listening, pronunciation and confidence. I began practising short conversations, shadowing audio and writing down useful expressions. Over time, I could understand more and respond more quickly, but every new level introduced harder vocabulary and more complex situations. That is why the learning process can continue for many years.

It takes a long time because a language is not one single skill. You have to build vocabulary, improve accuracy and use everything automatically. The progress is gradual, but that also makes the achievement more satisfying.
